Lyall Cameron attracts Turkish interest after Rangers exit decision
Lyall Cameron is attracting interest from Turkish side Caykur Rizespor after Rangers made the midfielder available for transfer.
Cameron's Rangers future is increasingly pointing towards an exit, with the 23-year-old understood to have been told he can leave Ibrox before the transfer window closes.
Inside Ibrox understands that Rizespor have emerged as a potential destination for Cameron, with the Turkish club looking at the Rangers midfielder as they assess options for their midfield.
The interest comes after Cameron was left out of Derek McInnes' plans at the beginning of the new campaign.
Cameron yet to feature under McInnes
Cameron's position at Rangers has changed significantly over the past year. The midfielder joined Rangers after establishing himself at Dundee, having agreed a pre-contract to move to Ibrox during Philippe Clement's time as manager.
However, Cameron was unable to establish himself as a regular first-team player.
He was used sparingly during Russell Martin's brief tenure, who was head coach when he arrived, having replaced Clement, although he did make an impact with a goal against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League qualifying round.
Danny Rohl subsequently allowed Cameron to leave on loan, with the midfielder spending time at Aberdeen.
Cameron returned to Rangers this summer but has yet to feature under McInnes, with the manager instead turning to a number of other midfield options.
Rangers have strengthened the position with the arrivals of Cammy Devlin, Dan Neil and Vanja Dragojevic, while Nicolas Raskin, Tochi Chukwuani and Thelo Aasgaard have also been ahead of Cameron in the midfield pecking order. Mohamed Diomande was another option before his own departure to Turkish side Corum.
Rizespor interest emerges
Cameron's lack of involvement has now coincided with Rangers making the midfielder available for transfer.
The club are understood to be prepared to allow him to leave if a suitable opportunity presents itself, with the Turkish market now providing a potential route out of Ibrox.
Rizespor are understood to be interested in Cameron as they consider their midfield options.
A move to Turkey could provide Cameron with the opportunity to secure regular first-team football after struggling to establish himself at Rangers.
An exit would also allow McInnes to reduce the size of his squad and create additional room for further recruitment before the transfer window closes but it is yet unclear whether the interest is in a permanent move or a loan deal.
Cameron faces Rangers decision
The midfielder's situation represents another example of the changes being made to the Rangers squad under McInnes.
Cameron arrived at Ibrox with considerable expectation after his performances for Dundee but has ultimately found it difficult to turn that potential into a sustained run in the Rangers first team.
His loan spell at Aberdeen last season offered him the chance to play regularly, but he has returned to Ibrox only to find himself further down the midfield hierarchy.
Rangers are now prepared to sanction his departure and interest emerging from Rizespor, Cameron could have an important decision to make over the remainder of the transfer window. There is also interest in the midfielder from English League One sides and from Polish sides according to the Rangers Review.
A move to Turkey would represent a significant change in direction for the midfielder, but could give him the regular football that has been difficult to find since moving to Ibrox.
