Liam Scales sits out Ireland’s win over Israel as former Celt scores

Celtic defender Liam Scales was one of several Irish players embroiled in a much publicised row, which was all down to a difference in opinion in the Eire camp over whether the players would take to the field against an Israel side who most agree shouldn’t be competing in FIFA competitions due to the atrocities committed by the barbaric Israeli regime.

In the end after a vote between the players, it was agreed that the game would go ahead, despite a section of the squad in disagreement, but the players who started the game in the Nagyerdei stadium in Debrecenben Hungary made their feelings known as they wore black arm bands, whilst bowing their heads during the Israeli national anthem, and refused to shake their opponents hands.

The Israeli players were clearly not impressed, neither were the small band of Israeli supporters who made the trip as they made their feelings known by signalling obscenities at the Irish players.

Liam, who was criticised for his display in Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Kosovo was an unused substitute on the night, with it being reported that he was dropped due to being one of the players who backed teammate Gavin Bazunu’s stance of refusing to take part in the fixture against Israel.

The Republic took their fury out on the ‘home’ side by winning 3-0, with all three goals scored in the first 25 minutes of the game.

Former Celtic striker Adam Idah scored the second after sixteen minutes, to add to Troy Parrots opener which was scored three minutes earlier, with Jack Moylan adding the third and final goal on the 25th minute.

There was also an late appearance from former Celtic youngster Rocco Vata who was introduced as a 76 minute substitute for opening goalscorer Troy Parrot.

Scales, Idah, and Vata weren’t the only Celtic connections on the night, as former Celtic winger Liel Abada was an unused substitute for the Israelis.
