The Green Brigade made their feelings clear over Celtic’s latest Champions League failure with a pointed banner during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Falkirk.

Martin O’Neill’s side returned to domestic action following their disastrous midweek collapse against LASK, which saw Celtic surrender a four-goal aggregate advantage and drop into the Europa League.

Before attention could fully turn back to Premiership matters, the Green Brigade used the occasion to highlight Celtic’s repeated failures in Champions League qualifying.

Their banner read: “World class embarrassment.

“Legia, Maribor, Malmo, AEK Athens, Cluj, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, Kairat, LASK.”

The message referenced nine European eliminations stretching back to 2014, with the latest defeat extending Celtic’s run to six consecutive unsuccessful Champions League qualifying campaigns.

Kairat and LASK have inflicted the two most recent blows, with both clubs reaching the Champions League for the first time after eliminating Celtic.

The banner also referenced the remarkable events of 2014, when Celtic were handed a reprieve after suffering a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Legia Warsaw due to the Polish club fielding an ineligible player.

That lifeline ultimately counted for little, with Maribor eliminating Celtic in the following round.
