Leeroy Echteld criticises Kees Smit’s attitude: ‘He is allowed to be angry, but I find this...’
Leeroy Echteld was not happy with Kees Smit's attitude on Saturday evening, the AZ coach said in an interview with ESPN after the match against Fortuna Sittard (0-2 win).
AZ got a huge slice of luck after just nine minutes on Saturday evening when Fortuna striker Ole Romeney stood on Chavez's ankle and was sent off.
Even then, AZ took a long time to break down Danny Buijs' ten men. The club from Alkmaar spurned a host of chances before Jizz Hornkamp opened the scoring after 58 minutes.
By the end, the former striker of, among others, Heracles and Willem II had also made it 0-2, meaning AZ remain flawless in the league.
Despite that, Echteld was not happy afterwards. Smit's attitude after his substitution in the 69th minute clearly annoyed him. Echteld then decided to take him off for Jordy Clasie.
"Look, he is angry and he doesn't look at me. He is allowed to be angry, but I do not like this. You can still look at me when you are substituted. He can come to me tomorrow," said the AZ coach.
