Kyogo opens door to Celtic return as he reflects on Hoops departure

The Japanese striker departed the Hoops for Rennes in a £10million move in January 2025, bringing an end to a hugely successful three-and-a-half-year spell in Glasgow.

Kyogo scored 85 goals and lifted eight major honours with Celtic before seeking a new challenge away from Scottish football.

Moves to Rennes and Birmingham City failed to bring the same level of success, while a potential loan return to Celtic was considered but never materialised.

Now at LA Galaxy, the forward has reflected fondly on his time at Celtic and left the door open to wearing the Hoops again.

Kyogo said via Daily Record: “I loved my time with Celtic. It was such a special period, but at the time I was looking for a new challenge.

“I spoke with the manager, the board, and the team, and they fully supported me in the direction and new challenge that I was going on to.

“I’m very sad that I may have broken some hearts. However, I’m not retired. I believe there will be a time where we can all meet again.”

Asked specifically about the prospect of returning to Glasgow, Kyogo refused to dismiss the possibility.

He continued: “I’m not fully retired. I would never put it at a zero per cent chance.

“As long as I continue playing, only the future will tell.”
