Konstantinos Karetsas revels in stellar debut in front of 'Yellow Wall'

Borussia Dortmund forward Konstantinos Karetsas had a debut to remember. Although Serhou Guirassy and Giannis Konstantelias scored the goals, it was the former who actually ran the show. At least in the first half.

Playing a neat one-two with Guirassy, Karetsas set him up for their opening goal and bagged an assist on his Bundesliga debut. But the 18-year-old didn't stop there. He tested the Hamburg defense with a rasping shot just moments after, although goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes parried it over.

Opening up on his first league game with the club, Karetsas hailed the home crowd for their vociferous support of them, something he said he 'enjoyed'.

I really enjoyed my first Bundesliga game. It was my first time playing in front of the Yellow Wall with all the fans! It was so loud. That was the best part for me today.

Karetsas further revealed it was an experience he never had before:

During every significant play, we could hear the whole stadium. This is a new experience for me, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.

During the frantic opening 45 minutes, Karetsas registered the most dribbles (4) most key passes (3), most shots (5) and most crosses (4) of any Dortmund player.

Brimming with confidence and attacking exuberance, the Greek teenager took the game to Hamburg with his mazy runs through the defense, while also switching plays out wide with neat, incisive passes.

A goal on the day would've been perfect to cap it all off, but Karetsas admitted that he wasn't clinical enough with his chances.

In the end, I lacked a bit of efficiency. I should have scored. We need to work on our efficiency as a team in upcoming games as well. We need to take it one game at a time now. With our fans behind us, anything is possible.

Dortmund appeared to lose steam in the second half, especially with his Karetsas' compatriot Konstantelias going off with an injury.

Then in the 77th minute, Samuele Inacio was sent off for the BVB after the Italian struck Hamburg's Albert Gronbek with the sole of his foot while contesting the ball.

Luckily for them, there was no squeaky bumtime from Die Rothosen, who were missing in the attacking flair that saw them score twice at the Signal Iduna Park on their last visit on March.

Karetsas will be gunning to continue his splendid start to life with Dortmund in the DFB-Pokal clash away to HEBC on Tuesday, 1 September.
