Karim El Ahmadi concludes after Ajax v PSV: 'He will certainly be selected for the Netherlands national team'

Karim El Ahmadi and Arnold Bruggink expect Ruben van Bommel to receive his first Netherlands call-up later this month. They said so on the VriendenLoterij Eretribune on ESPN.

PSV sealed a 1-3 win over Ajax in Saturday's top-of-the-table clash. Van Bommel was the main talking point afterwards, though more for negative reasons than positive ones.

During the second half, the PSV winger sent Aaron Bouwman crashing with a heavy shove, forcing him off injured. The referee showed Van Bommel a yellow card.

Plenty of debate followed that incident, but presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen pointed out on the VriendenLoterij Eretribune that analyst Arnold Bruggink also wanted to highlight the forward's display.

"A player who has of course been very much discussed: Ruben van Bommel. We have done so in a negative sense," Van Gangelen said, before turning to Bruggink. "But you already said: that is a shame, because he played really well today. He is lightning quick, technically gifted and also incredibly strong."

Bruggink said: "He has everything a modern winger needs. If you look at the way he can play... He wants the ball in behind, but also to feet. He is so lightning quick over the first few yards... That gives him a huge amount of threat."

El Ahmadi then said: "I think he will definitely be selected. Don’t you think so?" Bruggink replied: "Yes, I think so, yes."

So far, Van Bommel has not been included in a Netherlands squad. He has, however, already played sixteen internationals for Jong Oranje, scoring four goals.
