Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is very impressed with academy player Alexis Ciria and wants to give him more minutes during the remainder of the pre-season.

Ciria has played all friendlies for Real Madrid so far, and has looked very impressive. He has scored a goal and also assisted another, and looks very composed on the ball.

He's a left winger, so there probably won't be that many minutes for him going forward, but academy players like Ciria always find a way to appear for the first team if they impress the coaches enough.

Obviously, the player is playing in a position which is occupied by Vinicius Junior. There's also a position that Kylian Mbappe loves, and once he returns from injury, Rodrygo would also love to play there.

To make matters slightly worse, Yan Diomande's second position is also on the left wing, which shows that chances for Ciria to be playing in that position are pretty low.

However, that is not to say he can't do his best to impress the manager in the minutes he does have, though.

Alexis Ciria can become Real Madrid Castilla's next big thing

It is actually a very good opportunity for Ciria to gain a good role at Real Madrid, whether it's at Castilla or for the first team.

At the moment, Castilla don't really have a talismanic player. They had Gonzalo Garcia, who got promoted to the first team and then eventually sold to Fulham.

Last season, they had Cesar Palacios, who is now also at Fulham alongside Garcia and Alvaro Arbeloa.

Now, the team looks very young and doesn't really have that player who can take the team out of bad situations and score important goals and make important assists.

If Ciria impresses here, his confidence will skyrocket, and he will definitely play more confidently for Castilla as well. If he impresses there and he starts doing well, he might get a bigger role, and that could be the turning of the tide for the youngster.

These are many ifs in a situation regarding a youngster, which usually is not a good idea because with youngsters, you never know how they will progress and when they will progress.

Growth isn't always linear, but Ciria looks like a very promising player, and even if he's not able to perform, even if he's not able to play that much for the first team, Ciria can still play a big role for Castilla.

There are huge shoes to fill, and if Ciria is as good as Mourinho thinks he is, Castilla should have no problem scoring goals next season.
