Ardon Jashari’s positive international break continued as he started and played a full 90 minutes for Switzerland on Saturday night.

It was not a good night for Luka Modric, whose Croatia side were beaten 7-0 by England. After the game the midfielder spoke of feeling ‘ashamed’ for the first time in his international career, but Jashari had a much better evening.

Switzerland won again for the third time in the break, beating Slovenia 2-1, and Jashari was named in the starting line-up for the third game in a row. The temporary absence of Granit Xhaka has opened the door for the former Club Brugge star, who was used in the double pivot alongside Freuler.

The numbers tell the story from a performance in which the 24-year-old was very involved. He had 91 touches, completed 75/84 passes (89%) and 3/5 long balls. He also had one shot on target, 33 carries, 5 recoveries and won his 1 aerial duel.

It is a positive sign for Ruben Amorim who always hopes to welcome back players with rhythm and confidence. Jashari has found starts hard to come by since he joined the Rossoneri from Brugge last summer, but his performances for his country are certainly helping him stake a claim.
