Inter Miami's latest signing could be what they need but there's a major concern
A few days ago, we talked about Inter Miami's poor run of form. Even though they defeated CF Montreal 7-1, one thing doesn't cancel out the other. On top of that, their latest transfer window didn't make much sense in terms of helping them get out of this difficult situation.
We’ve discussed the wrong decision to transfer Noah Allen to the Chicago Fire. However, that gives the Herons fans a hint of how Kily Gonzalez, Inter Miami’s new head coach, will play in the upcoming games.
Still, the Herons have continued to strengthen their squad, especially in midfield, under the new manager. Their latest success is signing a Paraguayan midfielder with a strong World Cup performance and recent MLS experience.
Inter Miami signed Matias Galarza Fonda on loan
But as always, let's first lay out the signing of the former River Plate player before starting the analysis to determine whether he ended up being a good signing or not. According to Inter Miami’s official website:
“Inter Miami CF announced today the signing of Paraguayan international midfielder Matías Galarza on loan from CA River Plate of the Argentine Primera División through the conclusion of the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with an option to purchase at the end of the loan.”
Now, we can start with the right foot, as having Galarza Fonda on loan is already a great move. Why? Because if he doesn't perform or doesn’t adapt to his new team, Inter Miami can decide not to make the move permanent or activate the purchase option included by River Plate.
As a player, the Paraguayan has proved to be a solid choice for any MLS team. His recent performance with Atlanta United was the reason he made it to the World Cup roster.
If there is one thing Galarza Fonda showed in the international tournament, it is his tremendous work rate on the field and his aggressiveness when defending, something Inter Miami has been lacking.
On top of that, he has the intelligence to know when to carry the ball forward and when to combine with teammates through short passes. Now, not everything is an advantage about this footballer.
The truth is, his time at River Plate is something to forget. The intense atmosphere at the Mas Monumental, along with the pressure experienced in every Argentine stadium, is something the Herons must be prepared for; Galarza Fonda has a history of struggling in hostile environments.
Just that he is not made for BIG games like Rodrigo De Paul, Casemiro, Lionel Messi, or Luis Suarez, among others. Galarza Fonda is young and can give a lot for Inter Miami this season, but this is crucial when deciding which games he will play.
