“I’m loving it man, I’m loving it,” Colby Donovan
Colby Donovan wasn’t available for Celtic’s penultimate Scottish Premiership fixture away to Motherwell back in May…
He could of course have attended as part of the official party but decided to take the opportunity as a Celtic supporter to go into the away end to cheer the team on to that iconic 3-2 victory which set up the Hearts breaking title decider.
With Alistair Johnston sidelined with his troublesome hamstring – the Canadian. will be out until November – Martin O’Neill opted for the Celtic teenager rather than the more experienced Anthony Ralston. And the 19 year-old Celtic defender certainly didn’t let his manager down.
The Celtic fan media remains banned by Celtic so no places in the mixed zone tent after the match. Usually what would happen is that the participating fan media outlets would take turns at attending both the pre-match media conferences and the post match mixed zone opportunity in the tent.
Basically you’d leave your seat after the match and head round to the front door to gain access, then you’d wait for some players from both teams coming through to grab the chance to ask a question.
Colby Donovan was one of the Celtic players who made his way into the tent and the BBC video shown below let’s you watch what happened and what the young Celt, who put in an outstanding performance, had to say.
“I try and give my best for the badge every game I go into. Every time I put on the Celtic jersey, I always give 110 per cent,” Colby Donovan told the mainstream media including curiously enough Celtic Way.
“Hearing the fans before the game with that Champions League anthem, it was so special. Coming here on special nights like this, it’s what you dream of, isn’t it?
“I used to sit in these stands and listen to the Champions League anthem and watch the Bhoys. For me to actually do it, words actually can’t describe it. I look up after the games and I see my family.
“But sometimes in the games, most of my pals are in the Bhoys and all that. So I look up and I always see them.
“I’m loving it man, I’m loving it,” Colby enthused.
Here’s Colby’s post-match media interviews in the mixed zone tent outside of Celtic Park which was featured on BBC Sports Scotland.
Alistair Johnston’s three month absence effectively presents Donovan with a golden opportunity to establish himself as a first team regular, and may also change any plans that Martin O’Neill has to bring in a replacement for the Canadian World Cup performer.
Colby wasn’t the only one loving it the other night, we all were. More of the same young man. More of the same…
