Hugo Borst: 'Ajax treated him disgracefully. He performed fantastically!'
Youri Baas starts for Ajax on Saturday evening in the big game against PSV in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie. Hugo Borst believes that is 'a good thing', he says on the VriendenLoterij Eretribune on ESPN.
"I'm very pleased about it, really, that Baas has been restored to his rightful place," said Borst about Ajax's line-up. "I think the way they have treated him has been scandalous."
"That lad has performed fantastically over the past two years, like a flag on a mud barge. It's no coincidence he was also on Farioli's radar." Last week it emerged that Francesco Farioli's FC Porto were interested in Baas, but no agreement was reached.
Borst continues: "In pre-season there were also a few occasions when Baas did not get any playing time, so I thought Míchel perhaps did not find him interesting enough."
"But now he is fortunately in the line-up for this top match. I'm a big fan of Baas. So this is a good thing."
Arnold Bruggink, who is also at the table, agrees. "Entirely deserved," said the analyst.
At the start of the season, in the qualifying rounds of the Conference League, Baas regularly had to settle for a place on the bench. Now, though, he appears to be back as a regular starter, although that cannot be seen separately from the injury Daley Blind is currently dealing with.
