Hossam Hassan chooses Salah's replacement

Egypt's national team travels to South Sudan

Hossam Hassan's coaching staff have named the man who replaces captain Mohamed Salah in the Egypt squad for Tuesday's clash with South Sudan.

The Pharaohs face South Sudan at three o'clock next Tuesday afternoon in the second round of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

On Sunday morning, the Egyptian Football Association confirmed via its Facebook account that Al-Bank Al-Ahly striker Osama Faisal would join the group flying out to South Sudan this afternoon.

Salah had walked away from the camp after the goalless draw with Angola, following a disagreement with technical director Hossam Hassan over being substituted during the match. The Egyptian Football Association later insisted in an official statement that the decision was designed to rest the captain and keep him off the artificial turf.

Egypt's squad included 23 players, who are:

Goalkeepers: Mostafa Shobier, El Mahdi Soliman, Mohamed Alaa and Abdelaziz El Baaloudi.

Defence: Mohamed Hany, Tarek Alaa, Rami Rabia, Hossam Abdelmaguid, Omar Fayed, Ahmed Fatouh and Karim Hafez.

Midfield: Marwan Attia, Mohanad Lasheen, Mahmoud Saber, Emam Ashour, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Ali Mahmoud, Ibrahim Adel, Mostafa Ziko, Haitham Hassan and Omar Marmoush.

Attack: Osama Faisal and Hamza Abdelkarim.
