NJ/NY Gotham FC will make their first-ever trip to Colorado to take on 2026 expansion side Denver Summit FC. The previous meeting between the two sides came back in March, when Denver handed the NJ/NY side their first loss of 2026 by a score of 2-0.
This match marks the beginning of a key three-game road trip for Gotham FC, who will make subsequent trips to Louisville and North Carolina before returning home. While they are currently on a 10-match unbeaten run, their last two results have been draws, and they'll view this match as an opportunity to get back in the win column.
Meanwhile, Denver will be looking to get their home form to the level many expected of them. The expansion side has a unique home-field advantage across North American sports because of the city's altitude. While they have a positive goal differential and more wins than losses at home this season, it has not been a fortress. Players to watch
For Gotham, in the assumed absence of Rose Lavelle once again as she recovers from a head injury, Jaedyn Shaw will presumably step into the attacking midfield role just as she did last week. Hence, she is one to watch. Shaw surpassed her previous career high in goal contributions last week with an incredible, albeit unintentional goal that brought her season total to 12. This brought her 2026 total one higher than 2023's in seven fewer matches. This was also her third goal contribution in her previous four fixtures.
For Denver, Melissa Kössler could be the X-factor in whether the Summit make the playoffs, making her someone to watch. After scoring in each of the club's first three matches, the German international went quiet before scoring a brace last week against Chicago Stars FC. This was her first time finding the back of the net in over four months, and those two goals could be what's needed for her to go on a run and bring Denver up into a playoff spot.
Prediction
The Summit's form has been a mixed bag lately, with a 3-3-3 record in their last nine, but they'll feel confident off the back of last week's 6-1 win over Chicago and this game also being at home. But the NJ/NY side has the talent advantage, even with some of the names like Lindsey Heaps, Janine Sonis, and Yazmeen Ryan on the Summit. This should translate into a win for Gotham FC by a 2-1 scoreline. Goals will come from Shaw and Sam Kerr for Gotham, while Kössler will find the back of the net for Denver.
