GdS: Two signings no longer possible as Milan prioritise attacking midfield role
Ruben Amorim has told Gerry Cardinale to prioritise the attacking midfield position, with Milan now set to make one more signing as opposed to two.
In recent days, Milan’s next moves have been discussed in the media, with several reports suggesting that Amorim wants another two signings: a centre-back and an attacking midfielder. Naturally, many players have been linked with the club for these positions.
On the other hand, the season starts tomorrow for Milan and they still have a lot of players to offload to raise some cash. Time is running out, in other words, and this could definitely end up affecting the Rossoneri’s final incoming moves.
Amorim told to prioritise
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as opposed to two signings, Milan are now leaning towards making just one (barring any late opportunities on the mercato). Cardinale asked Amorim which positiion is the prioruty during his visit at Milanello today, and was told it’s the attacking midfield.
In defence, even if Tomori were to depart, Milan are pretty much covered: Mario Gila, Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic, Koni De Winter, Filippo Terracciano, and Sankhoun Diawara. Furthermore, Davide Bartesaghi is perfectly capable of dropping into the back three if needed.
That’s why Amorim has told the owner and his management to focus on the attacking midfield position instead. It remains to be seen which player could be signed for that role, with no clear primary target at the moment.
In the meantime, the team is preparing for the season opener against Torino. Per the latest reports, Alphadjo Cisse and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be the ones to start in the two attacking midfield roles, having done well in pre-season.
Christian Pulisic and Alexis Saelemaekers will also be on the bench, but it’s clear that Milan are lacking a left-footed player here.
