GdS: Baresi’s mural outside Casa Milan vandalised – Milan working to find those responsible

This morning, disgraceful news has emerged that the mural in honour of the late, great Franco Baresi has been vandalised.

When Baresi passed, football stood still. Whether you wore red and black, blue and black, or any other colours in football, you stopped to respect the legendary defender. Milano was rocked, and his funeral drew a large crowd, giving the city a chance to honour one of its greatest icons.

Unfortunately, the city will now come together again, this time to condemn the person responsible for vandalising a mural of him.

The mural – created by artist Lucas.Streetart – was simply Baresi with the words ‘You’ll never walk alone’, which was sung outside his funeral and as this morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport writes, as seen below, it’s a shameful act to vandalise it.

His face, the ‘Cuore’ sponsor of the Milan shirt, the signature of the artist and the words attached have been covered and the Rossoneri are already in action to find whoever is responsible for the crime.

Speaking to MilanNews, as the report relays, the artist spoke out about this act and the pain it has brought him.

“Seeing my work so damaged brings me enormous sadness. Not for what I created, but for the person it represented and for all the people who were so moved by it.”

The damage to the work has unfortunately been done, but it will not erase the eternal captain from memory.
