Fresh Balazs Toth update claims Celtic deal could be agreed this week
Celtic’s pursuit of Balazs Toth could be about to move quickly, with a fresh report in Hungary claiming negotiations with Blackburn Rovers have reached an advanced stage.
The 28-year-old has emerged as a goalkeeper target for Martin O’Neill this summer, but the latest update goes further by describing Toth as Celtic’s first-choice option for the position.
Concrete negotiations between Celtic and Blackburn are said to have started last week, with a potential transfer now valued at around £4million.
Crucially, the report via Nemzeti Sport claims an agreement between the clubs could be reached as early as this week.
Celtic have been linked with several goalkeepers during the transfer window as O’Neill looks to strengthen his squad, but Toth now appears to have moved to the front of the queue.
The Hungary international is into the final year of his Blackburn contract and has already rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at Ewood Park.
Initial reports last week revealed Celtic had made contact with the Championship club, with Michael Nicholson involved as the Hoops explored the possibility of bringing Toth to Glasgow.
Things now appear to have accelerated considerably, with the focus shifting from Celtic’s interest to whether the two clubs can reach a final agreement within days.
With the transfer window entering its closing stages, Toth could now become one of Celtic’s next pieces of business if negotiations continue to progress.
