Former Celtic striker Tomas Cvancara completes latest loan move after Parkhead struggles

The Czech striker spent the second half of last season at Parkhead on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach but struggled to establish himself as a regular at the Hoops.

Cvancara scored just twice for Celtic, although his most memorable contribution came when he converted the winning penalty in the Hoops’ Scottish Cup shootout victory over Rangers.

The forward returned to Germany during the summer but has failed to make an appearance for Monchengladbach so far this season.

He will now attempt to get his career back on track in the Czech top flight after Hradec Kralove confirmed his arrival on a season-long loan.

Sporting director Petr Pojezny believes the former Celtic striker can make a significant impact after returning home.

He said: “With the arrival of Tomas, we are gaining a player with significant quality and experience from big matches. We believe that he will help us move the team one step further, and that he will regularly confirm his potential in Hradec.”

Cvancara has already trained with his new teammates and expressed his gratitude to Hradec for giving him the opportunity to return to Czech football.

Cvancara said: “I’ve had my first training session with the other guys. I have to say that it was a familiarisation session and a bit challenging at the same time. I walked around the stadium and met with the management.

“I’m very happy to be able to join the team, and that Hradec gave me a helping hand – I’m very grateful for that. I think that now I can also help the club, because I wanted to return home. I believe that together we can achieve great success.”
