Following his historic brace: Ferran Torres finds himself facing a strange surprise

What happened?

Ferran Torres could hardly have dreamed of a better Paris Saint-Germain debut. The Spain forward scored twice to rescue a 2-2 draw at Rennes, only for the night to take a bizarre turn afterwards, when he and new teammate Mika Godts found themselves locked out of their own hotel.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport", the pair were spotted together in the streets of Rennes after the final whistle. A group of fans had gathered at the hotel entrance, and the players tried to push through the crowd filming them on their phones. The revolving glass doors, though, refused to budge at that hour.

This was no simple case of supporters mobbing the new signings. The hotel appeared to be closed, or the reception staff absent, leaving the two men stranded just hours after their first appearance for the Parisian side.

A hotel employee stepped in to help, trying to open the doors, but failed at the first attempt. He eventually hit on an unusual fix: a side door next to the main entrance. He unlocked it so Torres and Godts could finally get inside, all while the fans kept filming.

Torres had lit up the night long before any of this. His PSG bow could scarcely have gone better. Sent on in the second half in place of Ousmane Dembélé, he struck twice to hand his side a precious point after they had trailed 2-0.

Fabián Ruiz teed up both goals, and Torres was suddenly the talk of Paris. He proved on his very first outing that he can make his mark in the French club's shirt, having arrived from Barcelona for around 50 million euros on a five-year deal.

Torres was not the only newcomer making his debut. Belgium's Mika Godts also pulled on the PSG shirt for the first time following his move from Ajax, a deal of roughly similar value and, again, on a five-season contract.
