Feyenoord fans feel deeply let down by their own star player
Anis Hadj Moussa has come in for heavy criticism from the Feyenoord support at half-time of Feyenoord - ADO Den Haag. Feyenoord surprisingly trail 0-1 at the break, and the performance of the Algerian right winger in particular is causing plenty of frustration on FR12.
On ESPN, Mario Been is also critical of Hadj Moussa. "He often hides, does not track his opponent and gives the ball away a lot," said the analyst. "You expect more from him. He has to shape Feyenoord, especially from the flank."
Above all, Been sees a problem with Hadj Moussa's positioning. "He moves inside too quickly, which makes it crowded," says the former coach. In doing so, the winger is making the spaces smaller, according to Been, at a time when Feyenoord actually need width against the compact ADO.
After 12 minutes, ADO took the lead after Oussama Targhalline gave the ball away unfortunately. Rottier then found Ian Thomas, whose shot took a deflection off Tsuyoshi Watanabe and left goalkeeper Justin Ernst with no chance. Feyenoord had more than seventy per cent possession after that, but hardly managed to break open the Hague defence.
Supporters have aimed much of their criticism at Hadj Moussa. The attacker barely got past his direct opponent in the first half and regularly gave the ball away. "Moussa has really done everything wrong," one fan writes, while another puts it briefly but forcefully: "Substitute Hadj Moussa."
Even the supposed transfer value of the 24-year-old attacker is being cited cynically. "Feyenoord want 35 million for Moussa, 35 euros is more realistic," reads a post on FR12. Another supporter even sees right-back Givairo Read posing more threat: "Read is more dangerous going forward than Moussa."
Not even Read escapes criticism entirely. One supporter calls the right-back "overhyped" and questions the high figures that have been mentioned around his name. His attacking contribution, though, is also being used to underline Hadj Moussa's disappointing display: "Read produces more actions in the penalty area than Moussa. Let them switch positions."
