Feyenoord director Eenhoorn hits out after fireworks scandal: 'The good will suffer because of the bad'

Feyenoord director Robert Eenhoorn reacted angrily straight after the 5-2 away win over SC Cambuur following the fireworks incident in the away end. The match was temporarily halted after 12 minutes when fireworks were fired from the Feyenoord section towards the pitch and surrounding stands, leaving three supporters injured.

"Terrible, to start with," Eenhoorn told ESPN’s cameras. "Above all, I think it’s dreadful for a number of Cambuur supporters who were injured. I hope those people are okay."

The Feyenoord general director said he could not understand how the situation escalated so badly. "I honestly don’t understand the cause either. Normally you do hear something from time to time, but that wasn’t the case this time either. It is difficult to always establish who is responsible."

According to Eenhoorn, Feyenoord will do everything they can to identify the supporters involved. "If people are caught on camera, they will receive a stadium ban. There is not much more you can do at this moment, but I think it is clear that we absolutely do not want to see this."

He also pointed to the positive reputation of the Legioen, who usually travel in huge numbers to follow Feyenoord. "The Legioen are fantastic, Hans. They go everywhere and full away ends are exactly what we want to see. But this is not the intention and I do not like it at all."

One of the fireworks projectiles also flew narrowly past Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst, while five Cambuur supporters in a family stand were hit. "You almost fire a rocket at your own goalkeeper, who just happens to see it coming, and Cambuur supporters are injured. I hope the people who did this are a bit ashamed of themselves."

Despite the incident, Eenhoorn hopes away supporters will not be completely barred in future. "There are of course also people in that section who had absolutely nothing to do with this. In the end, the good will suffer for the bad at some point, and that would be a great shame because, once again, the Legioen are fantastic."

On the pitch, Feyenoord ultimately came away with a comfortable 5-2 win, but for Eenhoorn the incident remained the main talking point afterwards. "We won, which is nice: three points. But what happened in the 12th minute, I do not like at all. Today was a bad miss."
