Former Celtic target Fares Ghedjemis is reportedly closing in on a €10million move to AS Monaco after a transfer saga stretching back to January.

The Frosinone winger first emerged as a serious Hoops target during the winter window, when Celtic agreed a fee with the Italian club.

However, Ghedjemis rejected the opportunity to move to Glasgow and instead remained with Frosinone for their promotion push.

The 23-year-old subsequently exploded into form, finishing as Frosinone’s top scorer with 15 goals from the right wing, all from open play, while also establishing himself as one of Serie B’s most successful dribblers.

His performances ensured Celtic retained an interest heading into the summer, while Rangers were also credited with joining the race.

Martin O’Neill confirmed earlier this month that Celtic’s interest had been “very, very strong”, but both Glasgow clubs reportedly withdrew after Frosinone increased their asking price.

According to L’Equipe, Monaco are now close to agreeing a deal worth around €10million to bring Ghedjemis back to France, where he was born and raised.

He will also qualify as a homegrown player for Monaco and is reportedly viewed as a replacement for France international Maghnes Akliouche following his £42million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ghedjemis is also said to have rejected a lucrative proposal from Besiktas in favour of a return to Ligue 1.
