There could be movement in Celtic’s pursuit of Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder Ermin Mahmic after an intriguing social media hint emerged.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the Hoops after impressing for Slovan Liberec and on the international stage, with reports in the Czech Republic suggesting Celtic are well placed in the race for his signature.

Now Bosnian journalist and long-time Celtic supporter Ika Ferrer Gotić has added further fuel to the speculation.

Responding to a Celtic supporter who asked about the prospect of Mahmic moving to Glasgow, she wrote on X: “Shhh, we are close, don’t jinx it!”

Her comment should not be viewed as confirmation that a deal is close, particularly given her own support for Celtic, but it is another intriguing development after reports from the Czech Republic placed the Hoops firmly in the picture.

Mahmic joined Slovan Liberec from Austrian side SV Lafnitz last year and enjoyed an impressive first season in the Czech Republic, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 28 league appearances.

His reputation was further enhanced at the World Cup, where he scored against Switzerland before finding the net again in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 3-1 victory over Qatar.

Those performances pushed Mahmic further into the spotlight before Celtic’s interest emerged.

At just 21, the midfielder would also fit the profile of a player capable of making an immediate contribution while still having significant room for further development.
