Eintracht Frankfurt are now apparently looking after all for a new number one following the 7-0 debacle at Brentford. As kicker report, Noah Atubolu of SC Freiburg is on the radar of the Hessians.

A move for the keeper, who has been frozen out by the Breisgau club, to SGE is still at a very early stage. But it could take concrete shape in the coming days.

That would mark a clear change of course from the Frankfurt decision-makers just before the start of their competitive campaign. During the summer training camp, sporting director Markus Krösche had stressed: "At the moment, it is not an issue to change anything about the situation."

A months-long debate over the place between Eintracht's posts had led to this point, stretching right across last season. After the departure of long-serving captain and first-choice keeper Kevin Trapp, Kaua Santos was supposed to take over the mantle.

Kaua Santos and Michael Zetterer do not fully convince

Yet the young Brazilian has struggled with serious fluctuations in form as well as injury concerns, quickly prompting internal doubts. Michael Zetterer, signed the previous summer from Werder Bremen, also failed to make the most of his opportunities and establish himself.

Then the defeat in the dress rehearsal in England pushed things over the line. Kaua Santos again had a poor day in Brentford, allowing the decision to mature to bring in a new experienced option in goal.

Elsewhere, the rest of the squad also needs reinforcements. There are gaps in defence and in attack. In attack, there is still hope of another loan move for Arnaud Kalimuendo.

Which player could still leave Eintracht Frankfurt?

Meanwhile, according to the report, the management are working on outgoings to create financial room for manoeuvre. Elye Wahi is on the verge of another loan move to OGC Nice, while Fares Chaibi has attracted interest from Crystal Palace. Michy Batshuayi will probably move to Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia.

Ellyes Skhiri also appears close to a sale. An option in England could also open up for back-up keeper Zetterer.
