De la Fuente: This is England, and we will not stop winning

A thrilling win for La Roja..

Luis de la Fuente could not hide his delight after Spain's thrilling 3-2 win over England at Wembley on Saturday evening. La Roja opened their UEFA Nations League campaign in style, and the head coach hailed his players' mentality and their refusal to stop fighting until the final whistle.

De la Fuente told a quick television interview after the match: "We are very happy with the result and the performance, and because we showed the world that we have great ambition and a strong desire to win. It's true that we went through difficult moments, but this is England."

Spain flew out of the blocks. Lamine Yamal put them ahead early before England turned it around through Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane. La Roja refused to fold, though, hitting back after the break with goals from Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal to seal the win 3-2.

Reflecting on how the game unfolded, the Spain coach explained: "We spoke between the halves. We were controlling the match, and we had three clear chances. We continue to show that this team never gives up, and that we do not intend to stop winning."

The depth of his squad clearly pleased De la Fuente, who savoured the options available to change games from the bench. "I am fortunate to have these players," he said. "Anyone can go onto the pitch and be ready. It's about trying to make changes, and they have exceptional talent."
