CM: Amorim seeing encouraging signs from Diawara but won’t rush minutes – the reason

AC Milan made the decision to sign Sankhoun Diawara in the summer, but he was not loaned out. Instead, he was chosen to stay with the first team.

Signing a young defender is not the easiest thing to get right and Milan have seen as much. They need time and little pressure – if they’re not given that, mistakes can happen with their development.

Strahinja Pavlovic almost was a casualty of this and Ruben Amorim is keen to avoid anything similar happening with the French defender.

Diawara’s difficulties

As Calciomercato.com writes, Diawara has certainly had a few initial difficulties since his move to Italy, having not featured at all in a competitive game. However, that is not due to an issue with him. In fact, Amorim ‘respects and encourages him’ constantly, but he’s not considered ready just yet.

Take the game against Benfica, for example. It could’ve been an opportunity for him, but Amorim is instead looking for the ‘right moment’ to include him as a starter or a substitute.

The plan isn’t to rush him into a role that he’s not ready for and everything from Milanello is positive. He works well and above all, he works hard. So, it’s unlikely that he departs in the January mercato. Amorim will give him a chance eventually; Diawara just needs to adapt to Italian football and a club the size of the Rossoneri.
