Celtic’s Scottish Cup final ranked among Europe’s best-attended as UEFA figures revealed
UEFA’s latest European Club Talent and Competition Landscape report has ranked the 15 highest-attended domestic cup finals across the continent during the 2025/26 campaign.
And Celtic’s trip to Hampden features prominently. A crowd of 49,613 watched Martin O’Neill’s side beat Dunfermline 3-1 to lift the Scottish Cup, making it the ninth-best attended domestic cup final in Europe.
Only finals staged in England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and Hungary attracted larger crowds.
Remove Europe’s traditional ‘Big Five’ leagues and Celtic against Dunfermline ranks third, behind only the Polish Cup final between Gornik Zabrze and Rakow Czestochowa, which attracted 50,072, and Ferencvaros against ZTE in Hungary with 49,858.
The Hampden attendance also surpassed the Dutch Cup final between AZ Alkmaar and NEC Nijmegen, watched by 46,500, and Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise against Anderlecht clash, which drew 40,100.
According to UEFA, only 11 domestic cup finals across Europe broke the 40,000 barrier last season.
Demand from Celtic supporters could comfortably have pushed the Hampden figure higher.
The Hoops received an allocation of at least 33,000 tickets, which was heavily oversubscribed, while thousands of supporters on the club’s Home Cup Ticket Scheme were unable to secure a seat.
Dunfermline had initially been handed around 17,000 tickets and still had approximately 2,000 remaining just days before the final as Celtic fans waited to see whether additional briefs would become available.
ScotRail also added extra seats and services to accommodate supporters travelling to the national stadium.
