Celtic's left-back problem just became an emergency as exit confirmed
Celtic's left-back problem is becoming an emergency. The Bhoys have been searching for a new left-back to back up Kieran Tierney, who has a colourful injury past and is not able to play twice per week, every week.
The Bhoys passed up on the chance to sign Marcelo Saracchi for a reported £1.5million after the Uruguayan's relatively successful loan spell last season. And so the search has gone on, with Tierney playing two of the first three games, while Liam Scales filled in on the left during the cup win over Dundee United last weekend.
Celtic's left-back need grows more intense
As Celtic continue their search for help on the left, left-back Adam Montgomery has left the club on loan, rejoining the club after making eight league appearances there last season.
The 24-year-old's Celtic future is in major doubt, and it looks likely he has played his last game for the club, given his contract is up at the end of the season. Now at 24 years of age, Celtic need a player who is ready to play in the first-team, but they do not feel Montgomery is at that stage.
A new contract does not appear likely, and so the full-back may well be playing to find a new club at Dundee, or perhaps more likely to win a permanent deal there.
Meanwhile at Celtic, Martin O'Neill has no out-and-out left-back back-up for Tierney. Scales can fill in there, and that's all well and good while Tierney is fit and able to play regularly, but as the games start to pile up, the Bhoys are going to have a major problem if they do not address it.
Celtic are on the lookout for a left-back, so it's highly unlikely they do not address it, but the situation is now that much more pressing following the exit of Montgomery. O'Neill will be praying he is not caught short over the next week or so, with the transfer window open until September 3 in Scotland.
