Celtic to miss out on defensive target as OGC Nice close on deal

Celtic have reportedly missed out on a defensive transfer target. The Hoops are in the market for cover in the fullback areas but it appears that OGC Nice are on the verge of securing the services of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Niels Nkounkou. The 25-year-old was wanted by Celtic but, according to L’Équipe, he has opted to move to the Cote D’Azur.

The article states that the Frenchman has decided to make the switch from the Bundesliga to the Ligue 1 side on a loan deal with the French side holding an option to buy.

The Scottish Champions appear to have swiftly moved onto Jordan Lotomba as they look to add to their backline. The 27-year-old has one year remaining on his deal at Feyenoord and Celtic are reportedly in talks over a loan deal for the Swiss fullback.

It appears that Celtic are scrambling for transfers in the closing phases of the window. Whilst it is always possible for quality to be found, given the amount of time to replace players, often quality is at a premium and a number of deals are already in progress, making it harder to interfere and hijack proceedings.
