Celtic to complete £9m deal for Gineitis despite midfielder start for Torino
Celtic are expected to seal the signing of Gvidas Gineitis. The defensive midfielder has been one of Celtic’s key transfer targets this summer but a deal has not been concluded despite intense speculation over the last few weeks.
With Martin O’Neill’s side exiting the UEFA Champions League in catastrophic fashion, it was expected that the move for the powerful midfielder would not be pursed. However, with the window coming to a close, it appears that Celtic are nearing a deal.
According to Stephen McGowan, The Scottish Champions are expected to seal a £9m deal to sign the Lithuanian Internationalist. That is despite the 22-year-old starting for Torino this evening against Monza in Copa Italia.
The report from McGowan details a fee of £9m, which may be the price inclusive of add-ons, but it certainly appears that there has been a late flurry of activity from Celtic.
The Hoops are expected to confirm loan deals for Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and Chelsea duo striker Shim Mheuka and left-back Landon Emanelo. MON’s team have already added Oliver Sorensen from Parma. The Dane arrives on a season-long loan deal with Celtic holding an option to buy the attacking midfielder. The midfield additions are also expected to allow Joel van den Berg to arrive from PSV.
The 19-year-old talent is perceived as being one for the future but very much a player that can come in and push for first team action.
