Celtic title celebrations: Eight more people charged over disorder
Eight more charged after Celtic title party disorder
Police investigating disorder in Glasgow following Celtic’s Premiership title win on Saturday, May 16, have charged a further eight people. The latest arrests bring the total number of arrests connected with the disorder to 32, according to Herald Scotland.
Four men, aged 55, 52, 22 and 19, have been arrested and charged in connection with alleged offences including assault and culpable and reckless conduct. The four men will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court in due course.
Three male youths and one female youth have also been charged in connection with alleged culpable and reckless conduct.
Investigation remains ongoing
The disorder centred on Glasgow’s Trongate and Glasgow Cross areas after Celtic’s 3-1 win over Hearts sealed a fifth successive title. Police Scotland estimated that about 3,000 supporters gathered in the city centre.
According to the BBC, two officers were seriously injured and three members of the public required hospital treatment. Officers in riot gear moved in to clear the streets as bottles and other missiles were thrown at them.
Police Scotland previously published images of 58 people they wanted to interview as part of the investigation. Officers said extensive enquiries remain ongoing to identify those responsible for criminality at Parkhead, where a pitch invasion took place in stoppage time, and for the disorder in Glasgow’s Trongate area following the match.
