Celtic summer target returns to action after turbulent summer

Farès Ghedjemis has returned to Serie A action with Frosinone following a summer dominated by uncertainty over his future. Celtic courted the attacker but never managed to get a deal over the line.

The 24-year-old was introduced for the final 33 minutes of Frosinone’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Venezia, marking his first league appearance of the campaign.

Celtic’s interest in the Algerian winger was well established. Having failed to prise him away from Frosinone in January, the Scottish champions revisited a potential deal during the summer, with Martin O’Neill publicly acknowledging Ghedjemis as a player on the club’s radar. It appeared to a case of either or with Egyptian star Haissem Hassan also on the radar.

Frosinone’s promotion to Serie A significantly strengthened their negotiating position, however, and their valuation ultimately proved beyond what Celtic were prepared to pay. This allowed the Scottish Champions to prioritise Hassan.

The Hoops subsequently struck a deal with Real Oviedo, which allowed Hassan to move to Paradise to bolster their frontline alongside Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran.

It looked like Monaco would then move in but no move was forthcoming. With his immediate future now settled, Ghedjemis faces the task of forcing his way back into Massimiliano Alvini’s plans.
