Celtic star 'very happy' to stay at Celtic after strong start
Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has no plans to leave the club any time soon. The centre-back has impressed at Parkhead since his initial loan spell in 2021, and he joined permanently one year later.
Carter-Vickers has now made well over 100 league appearances and he has found a home at Parkhead having had seven loan spells during his time at Tottenham over six years as a senior player, never managing a senior league appearance for Spurs.
The 19-time USMNT international has been a reliable defender for Celtic, and is looking for an injury-free campaign this time around, having suffered a significant injury last season that ruled him out of contention for a World Cup spot.
Carter-Vickers happy at Celtic and excited to return to fitness
Speaking ahead of Celtic's Champions League qualifying playoff clash with LASK on Wednesday night, Carter-Vickers said: "I’m very happy here,”
He added: “To be honest, being out for so long last year did kind of make me miss it and probably gave me a little bit more extra motivation for coming into this season. So, yes, I’m happy and just looking forward to this season really.
“Having been out for so long, I probably don’t quite feel physically at 100 per cent yet,” Carter-Vickers admitted. “Obviously, in terms of injury, I’m fine, but just in terms of regaining fitness and sharpness.
“But I think that’s something that any player deals with throughout the course of a season. There are always ups and downs physically as you go throughout a season.
“I think especially with Achilles away, what it does, it’s kind of like a spring. So it’s just natural that it takes a bit of time to get that last one, two, three per cent back. I don’t think any player’s ever happy. They’re always trying to push them for more and trying to get more out of themselves.”
Carter-Vickers has been a regular starter so far this season, playing alongside national team teammate Auston Trusty, who did get a spot in the World Cup squad,
Martin O'Neill also has Liam Scales to call upon to play at centre-back, but he seems to be prioritising the American pair currently, with Scales playing in the cup over the weekend, but out on the left.
The younger Dane Murray is also an option, and rotation is likely to be necessary over the course of the season, especially with Celtic playing European football, but Carter-Vickers is likely to start regularly if fit.
