Celtic have reportedly revived their interest in Hajduk Split midfielder Niko Sigur as Martin O’Neill looks to further strengthen his options in the middle of the park.

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to the Hoops earlier in the summer before speculation surrounding a potential switch went quiet.

However, the Daily Record reports that Sigur is firmly back on Celtic’s radar, with the club’s recruitment team identifying the Canada international as a leading option for the defensive midfield position.

Celtic are already closing in on a deal for Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur, but further additions could be required with Reo Hatate and Arne Engels potentially heading for the exit door.

Sigur impressed for Canada at this summer’s World Cup and would require a significant seven-figure fee to convince Hajduk to sell.

The midfielder is also attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe, although he is believed to be open to a move to Glasgow, where he could link up with Canada teammate Alistair Johnston.

Celtic are considering several options as they look to bolster O’Neill’s midfield, with Torino’s Lithuania international Gvidas Gineitis another player to have been linked with the Scottish champions.
