The Lithuania international has been on the Hoops’ radar throughout the summer, with Celtic now said to have returned to Torino after making enquiries earlier in the window.

However, any move could depend on the future of Arne Engels, who is the subject of significant interest from West Ham United.

Pablo Oliveira reports that Torino are seeking more than £8million for Gineitis and have already rejected an approach from Salzburg.

Taking to X, he said: “Celtic Back in the Hunt for Gvidas Gineitis Celtic has resumed negotiations for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis after having a bid rejected at the start of the window.

“The Scottish club has been informed that it will need to pay more than 8 million pounds. Torino rejected an offer from Red Bull Salzburg yesterday and is demanding an initial bid of 8 million pounds, plus bonuses.

“Celtic was not deterred by the amount but will wait for clarity on Arne Engels’ future before moving forward.”

That could leave Celtic with a decision to make if Salzburg continue to push for Gineitis while the Hoops wait for the Engels situation to develop.

With West Ham preparing another major offer for the Belgian, Gineitis could emerge as a serious midfield option for Celtic should Engels depart the Scottish champions.
