Celtic ‘pushing hard’ to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Niels Nkounkou
Celtic have reportedly stepped up their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt defender Niels Nkounkou as they scramble to strengthen at left-back before the transfer deadline.
Martin O’Neill’s side are expected to be busy during the closing stages of the window, with additional cover for Kieran Tierney among the club’s priorities.
Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo has been Celtic’s preferred option and has already visited Lennoxtown as the Hoops explore a potential loan move.
However, Foot Mercato reports that Celtic are now “pushing hard” to sign Nkounkou from Bundesliga side Frankfurt.
The 25-year-old, who came through Marseille’s academy before spells with Everton and Saint-Etienne, has also attracted interest from OGC Nice.
The French club are said to be keen on Nkounkou but have yet to formalise their approach, potentially leaving Celtic with an opportunity to move ahead in the race for his signature.
Coventry City are also credited with an interest in the defender as Celtic weigh up their options ahead of Wednesday night’s 11pm deadline.
