Celtic are reportedly considering a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny. The Irishman was part of Oliver Glasner’s squad that won the Europa Conference League last season, a far cry from his time at Killie and Airdrie.

Born in Ayrshire, Devenny represents N. Ireland at International level and has made 60 appearances for the London club. According to Stephen McGowan, who is usually on the pulse with Celtic’s transfer activity, claims that Devenny could be lined up as a midfield acquisition by Martin O’Neill’s team.

Devenny has one year remaining on his deal at Palace, but Celtic face competition from Italy and other English clubs with a fee of £6m quoted.

Celtic are looking to add quality to the squad in the wake of their UEFA Champions League capitulation against Linz. There’s a number of targets that have been mentioned and the Champions need to add to their side if they are to progress in Europe as well as continuing domestic dominance.

Given Devenny came through in Scotland, he would qualify as a homegrown player for Celtic’s European quotas, something that makes it an intriguing option. Devenny can also play at left wingback as well as in central midfield.

The youngster is a Celtic supporter and that could swing him in terms of choosing his next club. It is definitely one to watch.
