Celtic face fresh Gvidas Gineitis competition as Premier League club enters race
Celtic could face fresh competition in their pursuit of Gvidas Gineitis, with Crystal Palace reportedly ready to enter the race for the Torino midfielder.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the Hoops’ main midfield targets following Arne Engels’ £22million move to West Ham United over the weekend.
However, Celtic may now have to fend off Premier League interest if they are to bring the Lithuania international to Glasgow.
According to Europacalcio, Crystal Palace have set their sights on Gineitis and could soon open negotiations over a potential move.
Torino’s asking price has been reported at between £8million and £12million, while Red Bull Salzburg are also actively interested, with Danny Rohl understood to be an admirer. Anderlecht have also reportedly made their interest known.
The timing could complicate matters for Celtic.
Martin O’Neill’s side have until 11pm on Tuesday to register any additional players for their crucial Champions League play-off against LASK Linz.
Gineitis played the full 90 minutes for Torino in their Coppa Italia tie over the weekend, meaning Celtic would have to move quickly if they want him available for the European showdown.
The 6ft 3in, left-footed midfielder only turned 22 in April but already has the equivalent of 43 full matches of Serie A football under his belt.
Gineitis joined Torino from Lithuanian side Atmosfera Mazeikiai in January 2023 and has since established himself at senior international level.
