Camilo Duran could hardly have asked for a better introduction to the Champions League with Celtic.

The Colombian produced two superb finishes as Martin O’Neill’s side took a huge step towards the league phase with a 3-0 first-leg victory over LASK at Celtic Park.

Duran’s goals understandably dominated the post-match discussion, with O’Neill even describing his performance as “world-class”.

Callum McGregor, however, was just as impressed by something Duran did at the other end of the pitch.

With Celtic already three goals ahead, the winger charged back around 90 metres towards his own goal to help his teammates defensively.

For the Celtic captain, that work rate combined with Duran’s obvious attacking quality showed exactly what he is bringing to O’Neill’s side.

Speaking after Celtic’s 3-0 Champions League play-off victory over LASK, McGregor said: “Two unbelievable finishes. We’ve seen that from him in pre-season.

“He’s looked a real, real threat, and I think the best thing I love about him is he’s worked great for the team.

“You see him chasing back 90 metres to help the team when you’re 3-0 up is amazing, and that’s what we demand off each player.

“And then you see he’s got star quality as well.”
