Callum Osmand sparks Celtic injury concern after worrying post-match sight
The 20-year-old was introduced for Camilo Duran for the final 20 minutes as Martin O’Neill’s side returned to winning ways following their midweek European disappointment.
With Kasper Hogh unavailable, Osmand was O’Neill’s attacking option from the bench, but there will now be concern over the youngster after he was seen leaving the stadium wearing a medical boot and using crutches.
The sight is particularly worrying given Osmand missed the majority of last season through injury. O’Neill was unable to provide an update after the match, with the striker leaving while his post-match media duties were still ongoing.
Osmand made a significant impact despite his disrupted campaign last season, scoring twice for Celtic in two hugely memorable moments.
His first secured progression against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden, before he dramatically clinched the Scottish Premiership title with the final kick of the season against Hearts.
Celtic are already monitoring the fitness of Hogh and captain Callum McGregor, with O’Neill providing updates on both after the Falkirk victory.
He said of the Parkhead captain: “Well, he must be really ill, because he would not miss a training session.
“I spoke to him very, very briefly on Friday, and he was still recovering; [he] felt a bit better than he did before.
“I think it was all of the things he’s had. And yeah, so he’s never been ill. He’s had the little injuries here in my time, but he’s never been ill.
“I knew last night that he wouldn’t make it for the game. I’m hoping a couple of days and he’ll be back for us.”
And on Hogh, he said: “Kasper’s got – I don’t know the medical terms, I don’t know – a doctor thing here at this minute.
“And I thought that, for we’re going to go, that was the first of seven games in 20, 21, 22 days. So it’s a matter of just keeping an eye on him.
“I’m hoping he’ll be fit for Wednesday. I’m really not sure. But I’m hoping he will be, you know?”
