Brendan Rodgers unlikely to ‘air all the dirty laundry’ at revealing Glasgow return
It was confirmed this week that Rodgers will appear at an A Celtic State of Mind event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in June, where his two spells in charge at Parkhead are certain to be major talking points.
The announcement has generated huge interest among supporters, particularly as Rodgers has largely remained silent on his acrimonious Celtic departure last year.
Dermot Desmond issued an extraordinary statement following the manager’s exit which described Rodgers as “self-serving” and “misleading”, leaving many supporters eager to hear the other side of the story.
However, Gannon, who covered Rodgers closely during his time in Glasgow, does not expect the current Al-Qadsiah boss to use the event as an opportunity to launch an all-out attack on Celtic.
Discussing this week’s news on Rodgers, Gannon said in the Daily Record: “Brendan Rodgers’ shadow has lingered over Celtic Park for almost a year, since his incredible departure in October 2025.
“The fact he’s agreed to take part in a bumper support event organised by ACSOM fan media next June is the last thing the Hoops board will have wanted to hear.
“Rodgers won’t be the elephant in the room – it will be more like the marching parade of them from the Bare Necessities, with Dumbo and his pals chucked in for good measure.
“The former gaffer is unlikely to air all the dirty laundry, but there will probably be enough to soil some underwear inside Celtic Park’s walls. If Rodgers wanted revenge after the ridiculous way he was publicly flogged last year, he could have done it well before now.
“As tempted as he may be, he’s never had an appetite to damage the club, regardless of how it ended. He walked away without a payoff so won’t have been burdened by any non-disclosure agreement gag, yet he’s still kept his counsel.
“Privately, he might have been angry and extremely disappointed at his old chum Dermot Desmond’s about-turn, but it would have hurt him more that his name had been left in tatters when he returned to the club a second time to rehabilitate it following his first departure.
“Rodgers hasn’t really had to say anything either, as a lot of his grumbles from his final months have come to pass over the time that followed. Even ultimate company man O’Neill has admitted some of the recruitment issues flagged up back then haven’t really gone away.
“The current manager has enough on his plate worrying about what Rodgers may or may not say next summer, though.”
