Bolton boss confirms ‘huge blow’ ahead of opening game of Championship season

Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher has confirmed Ruben Rodrigues could be sidelined for up to six weeks with a knee injury.

Rodrigues suffered the problem during Bolton’s pre-season fixture against Sheffield Wednesday after taking a knock to his knee.

The midfielder was able to continue playing despite feeling uncomfortable, but subsequent scans revealed a low-grade ligament strain.

“Ruben isn’t a long-term one at all but he is injured,” Schumacher said.

“He got a bang on his knee at Sheffield Wednesday and he was uncomfortable, but he did manage to carry on.

“We have had him scanned, he has a low-grade strain in one of his ligaments in his knee, so the prognosis is he’ll probably be out between four and six weeks.”

“It’s obviously a huge blow, because he’s been such a good player for us in the pre-season.”
