Blackburn in talks over free agent signing

Blackburn Rovers are hopeful of making a new free agent signing.

Rovers are looking to strengthen their squad following a difficult start to the Championship season and Mowbray revealed talks are progressing over a potential addition.

“They are in the building,” the Blackburn boss confirmed.

“We are trying to progress things. These players have lots of choices and decisions to make.

“It is not an easy market; there are loads of names, and loads of fans were shouting after the game at Deepdale.”

It is not believed to be former Crystal Palace and Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew, despite the Ghana captain being heavily linked with a move over the weekend, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Rovers signed just four players for a combined fee of less than £4million during the summer transfer window and Mowbray insists any free-agent addition must be the right fit for his squad.

“I have to make the call at the end of the day,” he said. “You can’t just sign footballers for the sake of it. They have to fit your group and fit your squad.

“This team needs help in certain areas, not just because they have been around and people know their name, ex-Premier League.

“If we sign a player on a free transfer, the fans will see it and some will like it and some won’t.

“It’s not like signing someone who is 22 and has their career in front of them. That’s not the case, that’s the reality of it. They are out of contract for a reason, in my opinion.”
