The Belgian midfielder is closing in on a Hoops exit after Celtic agreed a deal with the English Championship side, with the 22-year-old expected to undergo a medical in London on Friday.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Engels’ former club Augsburg are entitled to 10 per cent of the transfer fee as part of the agreement that took him to Glasgow in August 2024.

That would see around £2.2m of Celtic’s £22m fee head to the Bundesliga club.

Engels arrived from Augsburg as Celtic’s record signing at the time and went on to establish himself as a key member of the squad.

He helped the Hoops win back-to-back Premiership titles, as well as the League Cup and last season’s Scottish Cup.

The Belgium international made exactly 100 appearances for Celtic across all competitions, scoring 17 goals.

His move to West Ham is now expected to be finalised once he completes his medical and the remaining formalities.
