Dortmund almost drew despite being down a man

Algeria's Rami Bensebaini saw red during Borussia Dortmund's clash with Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on Saturday evening at the Signal Iduna Park.

The defender was dismissed in the 90th minute for a violent challenge on Morocco's Ismael Saibari, who had come off the bench in the 81st minute for Bayern. Bensebaini, by contrast, had started the German Klassiker.

Bensebaini is one of the key figures in Dortmund's ranks. Saibari, meanwhile, ranks among Bayern's most prominent summer signings, having joined the German champions from Eindhoven.

Down to ten men, Dortmund nearly snatched an equaliser in the 90+3rd minute. Maximilian Beier raced clean through on Manuel Neuer only to lift the ball over the crossbar in bizarre fashion. Bayern held on for a 2-1 win and the title.

Nathaniel Brown opened the scoring for the Bavarian giants in the 28th minute, with Michael Olise doubling the lead in first-half stoppage time. Fabio Silva pulled one back for Dortmund in the 75th minute.
