This afternoon, Ruben Amorim spoke to the media about the future of his AC Milan squad ahead of their return from the international break.

It’s been a fairly hectic international break for Milan. Rather than relaxing, Amorim has kept his squad in training to further work on his principles and this saw them play a friendly against Padova on Friday. Now, a 1-1 draw isn’t exactly enthralling, nor is it anything to get excited about.

However, it appears to have done some good, with a few players impressing. In addition to this, the Portuguese tested the change in system a little more. So, it’s clear that the change to a four-back formation is possible, even if it is only seen during games.

Amorim looks forward

Speaking to Sportmediaset, Amorim discussed several things, from individuals to his team and the upcoming month of fixtures, as MilanNews relayed.

“I don’t know what will happen in terms of the rotation I’ll make. I’m not thinking about giving everyone space, but about always fielding the best eleven to win.”

A change in system…

“A four-man defence? It’s important to be able to change the playing systems. The principles are the same; it’s not a question of defending with four, five, or three. They’re the principles; the team adapts and has shown it can do so.”

Ramos and Modric’s performances…

“Ramos? I know he’s under a lot of pressure; he’s an AC Milan player. He has to get used to this, and I just want him to continue training like he usually does. Modric? When we play well, it’s because Luka plays well. We expect a lot from him, and I don’t care about his age. I’m interested in what I see during the week and what I want to see on the weekends.”

It certainly seems like a four-back system could be seen more often moving forward, but whether it becomes Amorim’s go-to system is something else entirely.
