Massimo Ambrosini has doubted whether using Adrien Rabiot as an attacking midfielder is a sustainable approach.

After coming off the bench in the first two games of the campaign, Rabiot made his first start under Ruben Amorim against his former club Juventus during Sunday evening’s 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium.

He was given the nod in the right-sided attacking midfielder position, one where he came on and shone in round one versus Torino with an assist and a goal to his name, having come off the bench. However, on his return to Turin he was much quieter.

Speaking on DAZN, the former Milan midfielder Ambrosini expressed some doubts about whether Amorim should proceed with playing the Frenchman so far forward. MilanNews have relayed his comments.

“Milan – from a qualitative standpoint – have problems, in my opinion, with their two attacking midfielders, who are constantly being changed. Cisse, and then they played Loftus-Cheek, then they put Rabiot, they put Saelemaekers…

“There, in my opinion, they need to work on something, because they need more quality on that side. I also have some doubts about Rabiot being able to play there, because if you put him there, you take him out of the middle, and in the middle, Milan also needs to give Modrić a hand.”
