Alonso provides updates on Chelsea duo’s injuries and confirms Enzo Fernandez involvement against Luton

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has confirmed Moises Caicedo and Marco Palestra will miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Luton Town.

Caicedo is hopeful of returning for the weekend, while Palestra will require further assessment before his fitness is determined.

“Both not for tomorrow,” Alonso said. “Hopefully Moi can make it for the weekend. Maybe we need to check a little bit more with Marco.”

Alonso also expects Enzo Fernandez to be involved despite continued speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future, with Manchester City expected to make a move for him.

Yes, so we expect that he’s involved, he’s trained, he’s training really well, he’s a good professional and he will be involved,” Alonso said.

Asked whether he wants Fernandez to remain at Chelsea, Alonso added: We want to have the best team possible. We know his qualities, he has shown it and we have to wait, but we will think about tomorrow and let’s see how things develop.”
