Al-Ittihad settle it with Girona: another player out of the picture

An imminent deal

Saudi club Al-Ittihad have struck a deal with Girona to send one of the "Dean's" players to the Spanish side on loan, part of the black and yellow's reshuffle ahead of the new season.

Saudi newspaper "Al-Riyadiah" report the agreement will see Spanish player Unai Hernandez loaned to Girona for a single season, with the Catalan club handed an option to buy his contract once the spell ends.

Al-Ittihad's management had weighed up Girona's offer, which came on the condition that the Spanish club cover a limited part of his salary next season. Al-Ittihad would foot the rest of his wages.

Hernandez arrived at Al-Ittihad from Barcelona in February 2025 on a three-year contract. He played 10 matches for the team, scoring once and setting up three more, before his involvement last season shrank to just 8 minutes against Al-Nassr in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final.

The second half of the campaign saw the Spaniard head to Al-Shabab on loan. He turned out 31 times without finding the net, managing only a single assist.
