Ajax receive this 'modest' loan fee for Youri Regeer
Youri Regeer's move to Werder Bremen is all but done. The 23-year-old midfielder passed his medical on Monday afternoon and signed his contract with the German club, Johan Inan of Algemeen Dagblad reports on X.
Ajax will officially announce the loan deal with an option to buy soon, according to the reporter. It has also emerged how much the Amsterdam club will receive up front: Werder Bremen will pay what Inan describes as 'a small loan fee' of €200,000.
On Sunday, it was already announced that Ajax and Werder Bremen had reached a final agreement over Regeer's temporary move. The Germans will also cover the midfielder's full salary for the duration of the loan, De Telegraaf previously reported.
Werder Bremen have also secured an option to buy worth €5 million. If the Bundesliga club decide to trigger that option, Regeer could still end up earning Ajax a significant fee.
Back in January 2025, Ajax brought Regeer back from FC Twente for €4.5 million. Shortly after his return, the Amsterdam youth product picked up an injury, and his second spell at the Johan Cruyff ArenA never really got going.
Ajax regularly used Regeer as a holding midfielder and gave him plenty of playing time under Fred Grim and Oscar Garcia. He also initially started in that position under Míchel Sánchez, but he was unable to convince there.
After the arrival of Sofyan Amrabat, Regeer's prospects have diminished further. According to De Telegraaf, Jordi Cruijff would have preferred to sell him permanently, but a loan with an option to buy ultimately proved the best possible outcome.
Under contract with Ajax until mid-2029, Regeer has so far made 57 official appearances for the first team, scoring twice and providing five assists.
